At-Home Strategies
- Call baby's name from different areas of the room and watch if they turn toward your voice or become alert.
- Have different family members (mother, father, grandmother) talk to baby regularly so they learn to recognize each familiar voice.
- When baby is fussy, speak or sing in a calm, soothing voice and observe if they become quieter recognizing your comforting voice.
- During feeding, maintain eye contact and talk softly to baby, creating a consistent routine where they associate your voice with comfort.
