Social
0-6 months
Enjoys playing and cries when play stops
What to Expect
Baby shows pleasure during play and protests when play ends. Shows understanding of interaction.
Warning Signs
No interest in play; Does not protest when left alone; Indifferent to interaction
At-Home Strategies
- Play singing games like "Dhimmikki potey" (clapping game) repeatedly, pausing between rounds to see if baby protests for more.
- Introduce rhythmic play with steel plates or spoons - tap together, then pause. Watch if baby reaches or fusses for you to continue.
- When baby shows displeasure at end of play, acknowledge: "Sad that play ended? Let's play one more time!" This validates their feelings.
- Use peek-a-boo with dupatta - play several rounds, then stop and see if baby pulls at cloth or vocalizes to request more play.
- Create anticipation during play - "Ready...Set...Go!" before tickling or bouncing. Baby learns to expect and enjoy the interaction pattern.
